At Monsu, sustainable fashion represents an approach to the design, sourcing, and manufacture of clothing which maximizes benefits to people and communities while minimizing the impact on the environment.
We think about sustainability in three areas:
Monsu is a small business committed to supporting other small businesses whenever possible. We work with independent tailors in Saudi Arabia and Kenya with whom we have strong personal relationships.
We design clothing to have a long and valuable life, use innovative methods of production and distribution that eliminate unnecessary waste.
We are trying to make production as sustainable as possible by adopting a light inventory approach, recycling, composting organic wastes and donating our textile scraps whenever possible. In the future, zero waste manufacturing is Monsu's goal.
Textiles make up almost 6% of the trash in landfills. We always opt for solutions that are recyclable or biodegradable. We make our pieces from deadstock and natural fabrics such as organic cotton, linen, and pure silk. As we grow, our goal is to push harder to create more sustainable fabric options that are less intensive when it comes to chemicals, water, and energy.
